Ideal altruism isn’t a stretch target. It doesn’t assume reciprocal motion in an infinite group.
Ideal altruism is doing good and then not looking outside yourself for the balance at all.
You do the good because you can without the desire for anything in return.
You accept the good because you can without the need to do something for someone in return.
It’s giving and receiving,… but individualistically.
It’s individualism over socialism.
Bees do it. Maybe even educated fleas do it.
On the intriguing assumption that a plurality of enlightened individuals is more zen than than a plurality of unenlightened solcialites.
