He thought it over profoundly as if sinking in deep waters, he let himself reach the bottom of that feeling, all the way to where the cause resides; for it seemed to him that to recognise causes is exactly what thinking means, and that only thereby do feelings become firm realisations, which are no longer lost, but become substantial and begin to diffuse their contents.
