Turing Out

Reading a biography of Turing yesterday, I was surprised to learn that he committed suicide in his late 40’s or early 50’s. This had something to do with his being homosexual and persecuted in the era.

The author reported that the Harakiri occurred following at least 12 months of treatment for his sexual disease with the hormone oestrogen.

Unfortunately, the oestrogen made him impotent, fat and unable to concentrate, so his genius was also apparently stifled.

I suppose it also affected his ability to drive a car and caused him to become interested in the colour of his hair and nails?
